Planning: Orginal Images

Construction: Taking Images

Today, I went out to take photos for the digipak and magazine. The reason that I decided to do this today was because I was already looking for a location, and I thought that I might as well make the most of already being their, having nice weather and the day light to take the pictures. I managed to get a few pictures that would work well for the magazine, however I think that I may need to take some more pictures when filming for the digipak.

Planning: Editing Practice

Editing Practice was something that was helpful as it was the first time editing videos for a music video on my own. Looking at the video, I can see that the editing isn't perfect, and could easily do with improvements, however it gave myself more knowledge on the different types of ways that I could add editing techniques to the video. Adding on to this, the practice of editing also gave me more knowledge on the simplicity of editing and how it looks better if the editing with colour is not used too often, as it can get predictable and make the video look a bit more clumsy.

From this planning stage, I am going to the ideas of fast pace editing and different speeds of video clips into the final music video that I am going to make. The reason for this is because I have a few shots in mind that I think would work perfectly in slow mo. For example, the younger girl running would be one idea that would fit with this idea. Furthering on the idea of fast pace editing, will be beneficial to the video, as it will avoid the audience from getting bored, and is more likely to keep them interested due to it meaning that more shots are able to be added.

The editing practice was a case of me just putting clips next to each other to see what I am able to do with them. In the video I was able to try out different colors, transparency and slow-motion. Testing out these different features was beneficial as it allowed me to see how these features worked and gave me the opportunity to test out parts of the software that I would probably not used before, but will need to be able to use in my music video.

Planning: Shot Practice

For my planning, I decided to use the camera and test out different shots that I could possibly use for my final music video. This has been beneficial as I have been able to learn about which camera angels are going to work the best, and which ones I am going to avoid when it comes to creating my final video. Adding on to this, it also helped as I didn't have a plan on what shots I was aiming to get. This lead to ideas that I am going to be adding into my final video, as I think they would make it more interesting as it would add more of a variation throughout the video.

Planning: Location

Planning: Finding a location

Today, I went out to find the location that I am going to be using for my music video. Finding the perfect location for the video to be set in was not easy as their was something specific that I was looking for. The type of location that I was looking for, needed to include:
  • A big tree
  • Oak tree
  • Isolated
  • A hill
The location that I am going to be using, is important to the story of the music video, and it needed to be perfect for each scenario I was going to be doing. As well as this the location that I am going to be using also links to the lyrics of the song. By having the repetition in the song, it makes more of an impact on the importance of the location, and how it will change the view of the final video.

One specific thing that I needed to include in the location, was an oak tree. Unfortunately when I was looking for a tree to use, it was not easy finding a big one on its own, which meant that it was even harder to find a big oak tree. The big oak tree is one thing in the music video that I am going to be having to make a compromise on, as otherwise I am not going to be able to find a location in time, as I am having to start filming soon in order for the draft to be done in time.

After a day of searching for the location, I managed to come up with a couple of different possible places. The place that I have decided to use is the first image in the slideshow. The reason that I have chosen this location over other places is due to the idea that it fits most of the criteria that I was looking for, as it is placed on a big hill, with angles that don't capture anything else around it. As well as this, the location also looked the prettiest, compared to the others. Adding on to this I also feel that I am able to do more with this location, in the sense that I can capture different angels and add different situations for each character.

Planning: Props

Planning: Risk Assesment

The hazard that may occur
Who is at risk?
/10 Likeliness
How to prevent this from happening
Lights getting too hot when filming
The person under the lighting
5/10
Make sure that the lighting gets turned off when it’s not being used
Make sure people aren’t under the lighting if they don’t need to be
Trip over the equipment
People around the equipment
7/10
The way to prevent this is to keep the equipment out the way of other people
To keep the equipment tidy, when it is being used
Raining, which may electrocute someone
People using the equipment
1/10
Keep the equipment inside when it’s raining
Film on a different day
Raining, which may cause someone to slip over on mud
People who are walking around
7/10
Don’t make people run near mud, and make sure that the floor isn’t wet when filming
Falling into a bush
Anyone
7/20
Make sure that there is nothing in the way of the person, so that they can’t fall over
Ensure that everything is out of the way

By making a risk assessment, it ensures that I am aware of the worst possible outcomes if something was to go wrong when filming. When I am filming, I don’t think that it is going to be very likely that these are going to happen, however they need to be considered as there is still a small possibility. Adding on to this I also need to consider the risks as I will be using public areas to film, as the outside location of a tree maybe a common place that people are going to be. The risks need to be considered as I don’t want to get anyone else’s way or hurt any of the cast that I am going to be using in my music video.

The filming schedule that I have made, is very brief because of the idea that I am going to be using a couple of different people and I am not definitely sure which day I am going to be filming with each person.  Adding on to this the filming schedule could easily change depending on the weather as well, due to most of the shots that I am going to be taking will be outside.
