Preliminary: Final Video

Preliminary: Editing

The editing took place on 23rd June, where it took one session of three hours and forty-five minutes for us to manage to get the entire video and sound added together, with a video in the corner of a comparison to the original.

When editing the video, the entire group was present for each moment, which meant that we were all able to voice our opinions on what was happening. When doing the editing I was able to see a lot clearer when a part was either out of place or not.

The first thing we did when editing the video was add all the clips in a similar order, with the necessary parts that had been filmed. A lot of cutting down on each clip was needed because when it came to the filming we would start it a little early, to ensure that it could give the people in the shot a little bit of time to listen to the lyrics and be ready for the exact part that they were meant to be singing. This part of the editing to the longest as it was a case of having to get the clip at the perfect time, with not cutting too much of the video and not leaving parts that were not needed.

The next stage of the editing was the adding of the music. When the music had been added, it caused a few of the shots with singing to be out of line due to other parts being too long and pushing the timings of a little bit. Once the music had been added, this was when the clips needed to be exact as the timings for the singing moments needed to be perfect. This meant that precision and accuracy needed to be at another level, as lip-syncing can make the level of the video decrease dramatically.

Once the video and song were in time with one another, it left two smaller tasks to be done. The final things that needed to be done was the adding of the original video in the corner and to upload the video on to YouTube, so that the video could be embedded onto everyone's blog. One problem that occurred with this was the downloading of the original video, as all the usual sites to do this were unfortunately blocked. This meant as a group we had to be resilient and check every possible site, until we were able to find one that would work.

Preliminary: Filming

Filming Schedule:

 Day 1:

Filming began on the 21st June, where we managed to film the couple of shots that included younger Jessie J, which was portrayed by Csenge. The reason for starting with these shots is that Csenge had the necessary costume with her to make her look more like younger Jessie J, and the idea that we were going to need extra people to take on the other roles, which were not available to film at this specific time.

As a group for the filming, we first worked as a team to make the decisions of where the shots should be located. The first location that we decided on was a corridor with big double doors. The location fitted well with the first shot that we were going to film of Csenge, portraying younger Jessie J. The first shot included Csenge's character dramatically walking through the doors. This is the part in the music video as younger Jessie J makes a big exist, to show the frustration she is facing from the other girls in the classroom. Looking at the location and the shot angle, it matched up well with the original music video making a positive start to the filming.

The next shot that was taken was in the locker location. The locker location fitted perfectly for the shots we were going for as it has an open area, to allow the camera to be moved around to find the perfect angle. The shot was filmed smoothly, no problems occurred as the group as able to work well together and avoid any possible issues.

Unfortunately filming the shot where Csenge's character destroys the science project, faced a little bit of a problem. The problem that occurred was the idea that we were unable to find a suitable location that had a big enough table to allow the prop to be sat on in the shot. As a group, we managed to make a compromise and made use of the outside resources that had a table in the location. The compromise was made for the prelim task due to it being a practice video, however for the final music video I would may have done things differently and used the location had originally been planned and spent time moving a table into it.

The final shot of the day, was a brief shot of the posters being pulled down. The props of the posters were printed off in advance, to ensure the realism

Day 2:
Filming then resumed on 22nd June, from 9:15 to 12:30.

In the time of 9:15 to 11:00, we used the time to film the classroom shots. The reason for doing these first was because Csenge, Ellie and Sophie who were playing the characters that built up these shots had other places to be later on in the day. During these scenes, Chloe took on the role of filming, as she was not needed to be an extra in the shot, as we were able to make a classroom of people with who we already had.

While filming the classroom shots, I took on the role of one of the mean girls. The character I was had the costume of all pink, to help create an exact replicate of the original music video. When taking on this role I was able to experience what it was like to sing during the video, and how make this look realistic, but still be able to see the pronunciation of the words.

At about 11:15, was when we lost Csenge, Ellie and Sophie from the filming process due to previous commitments. Which meant that this left myself, Chloe and Megan to film the shots with older Jessie J and Teacher Jessie J that was being portrayed by Chloe. By having less people in these shots, it made it a lot easier to direct and understand what was meant to be filmed. The process of filming was the idea that we would have the original video on in the background to ensure that Chloe was able to copy the exact moves, with the correct lyrics at that point. By working as a team, the three of us were able to smoothly get the shots done, with as little problems as possible.
