Preliminary Photography Task:

Aloneness vs Togetherness:

Togetherness:

When doing the photography preliminary, I was unable to use any editing on the images, which meant to show the idea of togetherness, it had to be done through the capturing of the images. The way I tried to show togetherness is through the use of people. The people in the image are holding hands to show that they are united with one another. Furthering on from this, the camera set up also made a big difference to the way that the image was taken. The camera had been made to make the image look a lot whiter. The way that this was done on the camera was by changing the white balance, and exposure of the camera. By doing this it made a brighter, whiter image. This helped with portraying the idea of togetherness as the white in the image shows how being together makes people's life a lot brighter.

The second photo was also taken to represent the idea of togetherness. The way that togetherness is being represented through this image is again the use of people. In this image I went a different way slightly with the colouring as it is seen to be a darker pictures. The reason I changed the brightness and exposure to something darker is because I wanted to test and see what the outcome of this would. By doing this it worked well as it shows a clearer, more outlined image which allowed togetherness to be shown as the people in the picture stand out more

Aloneness:

The opposing images that were taken to togetherness were for aloneness. Aloneness was easier to capture as people were not as important to the picture. When taking this picture I used a portrait effect, and lowered the brightness. The reason for this is that the portrait allowed a bit of a blur to the background. The blur in the background is used to make the person in the image look as if they are isolated from everything around them, and how they are in a little bubble away from everyone else. Adding on to this the idea of the darker colouring of the image is  to show that being alone isn't a happy, pleasant situation to be in and to show the persons emotions in the image in a negative way.

The second photo that I took for aloneness includes the same girl, in a different location of which is in the corner of the room. The reason for placing the girl in the corner of the room is to show the idea that it is just her in the photo, and no one can possibly be in the background. When taking this picture I took it from a high angle to make the picture look as if the person in it is hoping for people to come and as if she does not want to be alone anymore. Adding on to this, another thing that I did to this image to allow it to represent aloneness is the idea of using portrait mode on the image. This camera technique was effective in the previous image, as it made the image look more isolated and makes it look like they have been put in a bubble on their own. The use of this effect allows the person in the image to stand out more, and allows the people viewing the image to look more at what the individual is doing rather than having the background draw their attention.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I learnt:

  • The first thing that I was able to learn from doing the photography preliminary was the idea that the capturing of the image can make a big impact on how something is shown to other people. This also links to the idea that I learnt that you don't have to do a lot of editing to the image at the end, it can all be seen through a few changes in the settings.
  • Another thing that I was able to learn from this task was the idea of the different camera settings. When doing this task I was unable to use any editing on the pictures, it had to all be done through the camera. This allowed me to learn how the settings worked on the camera, as I was use to the default settings rather than experimenting with the brightness and exposure. Furthering on this, the learning of new skills will be beneficial later on, as I will be needing to use the camera to create my music video, and to take pictures for the magazine advert and digipak.

Research: Inspiration/Directors

After doing my research into different music videos I have been able to gather inspiration from different directors.

The different directors I have been inspired by is:

Brad Wong - Bad 4 U by Imad Royal :

The song Bad 4 U was released on 10th November 2016 by the record company Atlantic.

The video that has been created, mainly focuses on the performance of the artist. In the video their is not a clear narrative for what is meant to be happening, however it is made up with the effects that have been added at the editing stage. One thing that has inspired me is the amount of colour that slowly gets added in to the video. The colour being used makes the video come to life, which makes it seem more interesting and likely to keep the audience hooked to the video.

When looking at the music video that has been created, the ideas that are influencing my final music video is to do with the use of the silhouette of the artist and the shadowing. The reason this is something that I am considering is because it changes the whole view of the final video, making it go from a standard video and transforming it into something of a nicer finish and more pleasing to the eye.

Fred Rowson - Desire by years and years:

The song Desire was released on the 3rd March 2016 under the record company Polydor

Looking at this video, it shows that they thought about the mise-en-scene. The costume and location can be seen to have been planned out thoroughly for the video as the actors are representing their character to the best of their ability.

The video that has been created, has inspired me when it comes to the use of the camera. The way this has inspired me is through the clear, precise shots that have been executed to the audience in the most seamless way possible.

Another idea that has caught my eye is the idea of the clips having an effect added on to them to make them look like they have been whitened. This works as it adds to the finish of the clip and shows that it has been directed to a high standard.

Director X - Hair By Little Mix:

The song Hair was released on the 20th April 2016, by the record company SYCO, Sony

Director X has been in the industry for up to 19 years, and has directed some of the most popular artists videos of the time like: Little Mix, Rhianna and Drake. When looking at the types of videos that have been created by director x, it is seen that the typical editing techniques get included in the video. An example of the editing technique that has been used in the video is a over the shot reverse shot and a four way split screen.

When looking at the video, I have been inspired by the simple shots that have been used. During the video it has been built up of a lot of short clips throughout. The reason for being inspired by this idea means that when it comes to the editing stage of the video, I will have a lot to work with rather than using the same clip over and over again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What I learnt:

  • I firstly learnt that looking into others peoples work, makes it easier to see the type of video that I want to make, and what I want to try and avoid
  •  I also learnt that simplicity in the camera angles works best, but going more elaborate and out their with the editing makes the video overall look better to the audience
  • Another thing I learnt is that it looks better if you have a narrative in the video, but include clips throughout of the artist along singing. By doing this it makes the video feel and looks more like a music video. As well as this including someone singing shows more skills as you have to get their lips in time with the song playing.

    • The CD is very basic but follows the colour theme of the album
    • The CD usually includes the album name
    • the CD typically includes a block colour background and the necessary information, rather than an image. This is due to it not being seen as it will be in the CD player and that this is not used as a way of advertising.
  • Booklet:
    • Includes images throughout the creation of the album
    • Includes song lyrics
    • Includes extra information about the album and the artist
Side:
  • Album Name
  • Record Label
  • Artist Name or Logo
All Together:
  • The album as a whole usually follows a specific colour theme

Research: Digipak

What I learnt:
  • I firstly learnt that the image used in the digipak is the main way of advertising, as it is what attracts the eye first
  • Another thing I learnt was the idea that the digipak typically has a basic back cover to it where you have a list of all the songs on the album.
  • The next thing I learnt was that the facial expression of the person in the picture tells you a lot about the album. It can reveal how they are feeling. If this is wrong than it can change the whole view of the entire digipak

Research: Conventions of a Music Video

The conventions of a music video are:
  • Short clips
    • A lot of clips included - Up to 30/40
    • Lasting 3 to 5 seconds
  • Fast pace editing
  • A lot of close up shots are included
    • This is to show the detail in what is happening in the shot
  • Basic editing techniques like a straight cut is used over a dissolve or wipe as it means that the transition can be more sudden, instead of trying to smoothly flow.
  • Performance
    • This includes the artist singing the song
  • Narrative
    • This means that the music video is following a story line
    • Linear Narrative
      • Goes through Beginning, Middle and End
    • Fragmented Narrative
  • A music video typically includes both a mixture of a narrative and elements of performance
  • Symbolic technique
    • This is used to show the actors facial expression and body language
    • Shows the meaning behind what the actor is doing
  • Technical technique
    • The camera positioning
    • This can change the mood of the shot

Research: Music Video

What I learnt:
  • One thing that I learnt from looking at different music videos is the importance of a performer. The performer in a music video only works if it is in time and of good quality, the performer needs to match the music video that is being created and needs to be somewhat believable to the audience.
  • Another thing that I learnt from looking at existing music videos is the idea of using different locations. By using as many locations in a music video will make an impact on the final video that is created as it makes the final video become more exciting and interesting for the audiences.
  • When creating a music video, I also learnt that the variation in shot types and lengths is something that needs to be considered. By including close ups of individuals and props allows the significance of it to be noticed by the audience, where as in a long shot, many different things are being shown, which makes it harder to for the audience to identify the important things that are menat to be happening in the specific shot.
  • Another thing that I learnt from looking at existing music videos is the idea of quality. The quality and standard of the video clips make a big impact on the final video that is created, and how people view it. A high quality video is something that the audience is more likely to want to watch as it looks appealing. Adding on to this if a video is of high quality, it also allow the audience to see the time and effort that has been spent on the video, making people want to continue watching to show their appreciation for what has been created.

Research: Music Video Analysis 5

Artist: Taylor Swift
Song: Bad Blood
Release Date: 17th May 2015
Record Company: RCA - Big Machine
Director: Shell Back

Narrative:
The narrative of this music video is seen to include the idea of a fight between Taylor and her enemies. In the video her enemies are portrayed by her famous friends, as they pretend to be in a battle against one another. The narrative of the video is seen to be representing what is happening in the artists life at the moment, with the lyrics suggesting that she has fallen out or had an argument with someone. Having these lyrics shows that this song has real meaning and allows the audience to be able to connect more with the artist. Going into more detail about the specific song, it can be heard that it is upbeat and fast tempo, which makes it easier for the video to be edited to the beat. This makes the video standard even better as editing in time to the beat enables it to be more in sync.

Camera:

One camera technique that is shown within the music video 'Bad Blood' is the idea of the camera following the main character of which is portrayed by Taylor Swift. This camera technique connotes Taylor's importance within the video, and ensures that the focus is always on her. Having the focus on her is beneficial to the music video as her name and image is a method of marketing. This could be a reason why people might have watched this video in the first place as the artist herself already had a big following before the video was released.

Another camera technique that was used in the music video 'Bad Blood' is the idea of numerous amounts of close ups. The close ups in the video also allow the focus to be put on Taylor Swift, as it ensure that her audience is looking at her throughout the video, rather than drifting away and looking at the other celebrities. Adding on to this the close ups also allow her to become the center of attention. Having Taylor the center of attention helps the video as it enables her to stand out from other people. This idea links to Dyers theory of stardom and star image, as it allows the artist to create her individual image to the audience, and to present what kind of artist she is.

Editing:

Editing is the part of the a video that allows all the clips to be put together and become a whole. One type of editing that has been incorporated in this video is the idea of fast pace editing. Fast pace editing allows the video to stick to one specific beat, of which for this video is of a fast tempo. By using this type of editing within the music video it allows the quality of the final product to improve. The way that it allows this to happen is through idea that the video clips and song are in time with one another, making it look nicer for the audience when watching the final video.

Another editing technique that has been used in the video is a montage. In the video their is a montage throughout of clips of Taylor. The use of this montage can be helpful to get her image across to the audience as another way of marketing. The reason that this is beneficial is due to the idea that when the audience is watching the artists music video, the main reason that they are watching it in the first place is because they are a fan of the artist who created it, meaning that they are likely to want to see more of them throughout the video.

Mise-en-scene:

Mise-en-scene is known to be the parts of the video that can be seen on the screen. This includes the characters, props and location of a video. When looking at this music video inparticular, the first thing that can be noticed is the costuming. Taylor's character in the music video is seen to be wearing dark clothing with a very heavy eye look along with it. The use of this costuming establishes the mood of the video, of which shows Taylor's anger. The anger that Taylor is portraying is through the characters acting and real life anger that she might still be holding in from her argument. Adding on to this the costuming of Taylor in this music video is very different from what she would usually wear, as this costume is showing more of an edgy side to the artist, whereas she would usually be in a bright dainty girly dress, showing more of her feminine side. From this costume it allows the audience to see Taylor's other side. Showing Taylor's other side will interest a wider audience as people are more likely to want to see her in another style of clothing and out of her comfort zone.

Another thing that can be noticed in this music video is the props. The props in the music video can be seen to include both a knife and a sword. Including these props shows that in the music video and real life Taylor is very vulnerable and weak after previous events that might have occurred in her life. The props in the music video allow her character to be come more confident and can be used as a method of protection and guard herself what might come her way. This could link to her real life a Taylor might be trying to get a message across to her audience that she is not going to be in the same position as she has been, and is not going to be walked all over and hurt by other people.

The video starts of with an establishing shot, that allows the outside and inside location to be seen by the audience. Including these shots means that the scene is being set up and can easily be noted by the audience.  Having this shot it also shows the low lighting that is continued throughout the video, allowing the mood to be set up. The mood in this video seems to be very low, as darkness reflects sadness and anger.

Research: Music Video Analysis 4

Artist: Beyonce
Song: If I were a boy
Release: 3rd October 2009
Record Company: Columbia (Sony)
Director: Jake Nava

Narrative:
The narrative of this music video is about a man and woman that are in a damaged relationship. In the music video it shows both sides of the story giving the view point from both characters in the broken relationship.

Camera:

One camera technique that the music video 'If I were a boy' includes is a mid close up. The mid close up is the first shot that is seen within the video. This shot is of Beyonce and then goes into the man playing her boyfriend. This shot is shown after the words are said. The words that are mentioned include intimacy, honesty and commitment. Following this shot is an extreme close up of Beyonce's face. This shot highlights that fact that she is the artist, and that she should be the main focus of the video. The combination of these shots are significant to the video as the words that are said are the type of things that they want to see happen, however their relationship is completely different to how it should typically be.

Another camera technique that is used in this music video is the idea of focusing. In the video the camera focuses and unfocuses along with Beyonce's actions. This type of camera work highlights the idea that the relationship with her boyfriend is slowly being lost and drifting away. This shot type is important to the video as it shows the being of the story. with this starting of their relationship journey in the music video.

Editing:

In this music video it uses an editing technique that enables it to be added to the beat. Editing to the beat is beneficial to this type of music video as it allows the song to be enhanced, showing more the dramatic element of this music video. Having this dramatic element is able to link the music video to the song itself, allowing the audience to able to notice the significant link between the two parts of the music video. Adding on to this the use of editing to the beat means that the videos quality and standard improves as it allows the video to be in time with the music.

Mise-En-Scene:

Mise-en-scene is what can be seen in the video. In the video for 'If I were a boy' it uses bright natural light, that goes along side the black and white filter. The combination of these different colours shows the artists true self and the timelessness within the video. The timelessness in the video allows the audience to know that the video was not filmed all in one day, and that it is a video over time. Having this video filmed over time suggests that this relationship has been spiraling out of control for the past couple of months, and is not going to be a relationship that is going to continue any longer.

Research: Music Video Analysis 3

Artist: Miley Cyrus
Song: Malibu
Release: 11th May 2017
Record Company: RCA Sony
Director: Dianne Martel

Narrative:
The music video Malibu has been created to show the new invented Miley Cyrus. Previously this artist has gone of the rails, and has not been showing her true self in her video. The video that has been created is Malibu. The reasoning behind this video is the idea that the artist and her fiance both live in Malibu, as it is talking about how the two of them got back together after spending a little bit of time apart.

Camera:

One camera technique that is being used in the music video 'Malibu' is the idea of close ups. In the video their is a lot of close up used of the artist. The artist is seen to be the only person that is in the video, which suggests that they are trying to focus the video on the artist as a method of advertisment. Adding onto this, the video is the first of many with her new image, which means that the audience are going to be more interested in seeing the way she is, rather than trying to figure out the narrative of the video. Going into more detail about the use of close ups in the video, it can be seen to make it easier for the audience to be able to see that artists emotion. The emotion throughout the video is showing happiness, as she has had a beaming smile on her face throughout. Having the smile on her face suggestes two different things. The first thing is suggests is the idea that she is having a lot of fun filming this video and wants the audience to be able to see this. The second reason for portraying this emotion is through the idea that she wants to show her audience that she is finally happy again, as she is back together with the love of her life.

The next camera technique that is being used in the music video is the use of a pan. A pan shot is used to show the location. Having this shot type included within the video allows the audience to also be able to experience the beauty of where she is. This type of beauty is showing the natural beauty, suggesting that Miley is trying to show her audience that she is naturally beautiful and does not need to be crazy and out their in order to attract her audience.

Editing:

Throughout this video editing has been something else that has been used. The way in which editing is being used is through a straight cut. The straight cut is a simple transition from one clip to another that allows the video clips to change. A straight cut is the simplict editing technique, implying that the aim is to not take away from the beauty of the clips that are being used, as the shots have been taken so well, that the audience is going to rather look at what is happening in the video, rather than seeing a wipe randomly throughout the video, as well as this the audience are also going to be more interested in the video, and would rather see what is happening next. Adding on to this the use of a straight cut keeps the theme of the video constant, with it having a classy look to it.

Another editing technique that has been used throughout the video is the idea of overlapping. In this clip their is a clip of balloons that are lightly overlapping a clip of Miley dancing on the beach. The balloons in the clip are used to represent the artists fiance, as the colours of them show how he has brought happiness and joy and lightened up her life.

Mise-en-scene:

Mise-en-scene is what can be seen in the video. This includes ideas such as Costuming, Props, Location and Lighting. The first use of mise-en-scene in this music video id the use of costuming. In the beginning of the video Miley is wearing a white dress. This costume is very girly and classy looking, showing the new version of this artist. In previous videos Miley has been wearing something bold, colourful and shorter, whereas this costume is making the artist look more natural and trying to show who she is, rather than hiding behind the costume she is wearing.

The next thing that can be noticed in the video is the idea of location. The locations that are being used included places such as: meadow of wildflowers, under a waterfall and along a sandy beach. The use of these locations is to show the beauty of the world, and to allow the audience to see the girly, pretty and simple side of her life.

Another thing that is noticeable in the video is the idea of props. One of the main props that is used in this video is balloons. The balloons in the video are very simple colours, of which are very vibrant. The use of these colours is showing her personality, as in recent videos the artist has been really crazy and out their, whereas this video is showing what the artist is really about and who she really wants to be.

Research: Music Video Analysis 2

Artist: Selena Gomez
Song: Bad Liar
Release: 14th June 2017
Record Company: Hollywood Interscope
Director: Jesse Peretz

Narrative:
This music video is a 70's styled sepia toned short story that is about a young student who feels out of place at the halls of school, who spends their day, day dreaming about there crush. During the day the student encounters the crush multiple times but never interacts with each other. Throughout the video the main character is just stares willingly until they notice, but when they do she turns away.

Camera:

This music video starts with an opening pan, to show the location. This shot is very clear and eye catching to the audience. Starting of the video with this shot shows the quality of the video, as this shot is seen to be allowing the video to have a strong start to it. Adding on to this the use of the pan shot, is to establish the type of video that has been created, and how the narrative is going to be displayed to the audience in the video.

Another camera technique that has been used in Selena's music video 'Bad Liars' is the use of close up shots. The use of close ups are significant to the character as it allows the use of her face to show her emotions. The emotions that this character is likely to be feeling in this video is heart break and loneliness, as the video presentes her in a way as if she is invisible to her crush. Adding on to this the use of close up also allows the attention and focus to be put on Selena. This is important in a music video, as the artist is typically the main marketing and branding for the music video and is usually the main reason that it attracts such a big audience.

In this music video, the camera is used in a handheld method to show the audience what Selena's character is looking at. The use of handheld allows the audience of the video to feel as if they are in the characters shoes, and can get an understanding for what happens in her life. The use of this camera shot suggests the idea that as Selena walks down the school hallway she is alone, and does not fit in the other groups. The people may not be actually looking at Selena, however this shot shows what she sees, and how everything is viewed.

The next camera technique that is used in this video is the idea of a long take. The long take links to the handheld camera as she is walking down the hallway. The use of the long take links to how Selena's character might be feeling, as it is suggesting the idea that it might feel to her as if she has been walking down their for a while, however in reality is might be a couple of seconds for her to walk down their. Adding this type of shot to the video makes people feel bad for her character, and makes them feel symphothy for her character.

Editing:

In this music video, they use editing throughout the video. One type of editing that is being used is the idea of focus. The focusing throughout the video is only on Selena. The reason that the focus is on her is due to the idea that the purpose of the video is to make her stand out. The reason that the artist needs to stand out is because she has an image to uphold, whereas the other people in the video are just their to allow the narrative to be shown, and to make the video look more realistic. Adding on to this the use of focusing also allows Selena's character to look more as if she is isolated. The isolation comes from the idea that she is too focused on her day dreams and crush to be around other people.

Mise-en-scene:

When looking at a video text, the mise-en-scene is known to be the things that can be seen in the video. This includes ideas such as: Props, Location, Costume and Lighting. The first thing that is noticeable is the props and location. These two different ideas link together and work in unison to make the video feel like it is authentic and realistic, making it look more as if these locations are real. Linking on from this, the video also includes characters of which show different social groups. This links to the idea of social, as they typically have different types of people. From this it brings the attention to Selena's character, allowing her to stand out as she does not fit in with any of the typical groups, she is being herself. Representing her character like this links to her in the real world, showing her audience that she likes to be different and should be someone that they should follow.

Another affect that can be noticed within this video is the idea of the sepia tone on the video. The sepia tone matches the narrative of the video to make it look and feel as if the video was set in the 80's. The use of this effect allows the audience to easily identify the era that this video is aimed to be created in.

Research: Music Video Analysis

Artist: Emeli Sande
Song: Clown
Release: 6th December 2012
Record Company: Capitol Records
Director: Wiz

Camera:

Throughout the music video of 'Clown' By Emeli Sande, it is shown to use a variety of different camera angles. The first camera angle that is used in the music video is a close up of the women as she walks into the court. By using this shot type it makes the video more interesting to the audience as it allows them to see the expression and emotion on her face. Adding on to this, it connotes the idea that this is place that she may not want to be in or can't get out of this situation. The use of close ups in the video allows the artists characters emotions more clearly. The emotions this includes is the idea of panic and fear as this situation of being interrogated by the police is very serious and can make you worry, as well as this the shot also shows the close up in the angle that makes it look as she is having to look up to the policeman. The idea of this shows the power and authority that this character may have and the idea that this could could also make the character feel very intimidated.

Another camera angle that is included within this music video is a low angle shot when the artist is singing in the dark dimmed room. This type of shot is repeated throughout the video, to allow the audience the opportunity to see more of the artist. Having individual artist shots is helpful for advertisement as it allows the audience to see more screen time of the artist them self, as they are the main reason that they have decided to watch this video in the first place. Going into more detail about this specific shot type, it can be seen that when the artists character is in the dark dimmed room, it is showing the idea that her actions have meant that the outcome is going to lead her into prison. The way that this is shown is through the idea of the darkness, as this is representing what it would be like in a prison cell. As well as the darkness, the idea of being alone signifies the idea that she has committed a crime that is going to lead her in to jail.

This music video also starts with an establishing shot of the location, where there is an officer stood at the door way point at someone outside. This shot allows the audience to be able to see the view of the entire location, and can get a feeling on how the video is being set up. From this shot allows the audience to make the assumption that the artist is going to be the person next called up the officers, and this story line is going to be followed throughout the video. This shot is beneficial to the video as it is a good, strong beginning for the video and is likely to make the audience want to continue watching.

Editing:

Editing in a music video can also affect the way that a music video is presented to the audience. The first editing technique that is noticed in the music video is the idea of focusing. Throughout this video the focusing is used to allow Emeli's character to be in focus during a shot, and the background is blurred out. This piece of editing is beneficial to the video as it shows the audience the importance of her character, as it takes the focus away from other people in the background and makes her more noticeable. Advancing on from this the use of focus could of been to show how isolated her character is and the idea that the officers are working together as a team to get every piece of information out of her. Isolating the character may make the audience side with the artist's character and want to understand more about why she is there in the first place.

Another use of editing in the video is the idea of cross cutting. Cross cutting is the known as an editing technique that allows the video to alternate from one location to another when editing. Using this technique means that the video can be kept interesting for the audience, as the change of location from the dark room where the artist is singing to the artist being interrogated by the officer is in contrast from one another as their is more going on in the court room, with more happening in the background, allowing them to keep the audience engaged, whereas their is clips that is very basic in the location of a dark room where the artist is just singing, allowing it to be more direct address, and trying to focus their audiences attention on the artist.

Mise-en-scene:

One thing that can be noticed when looking at the mise-en-scene in the music video is the costuming. For the policeman in the video, their costuming was very obvious and had every little detail thought about from the boots, belt, hat and gloves. The detail to the costume improved the quality of the video as it showed the thought that had been put into it, and allowed the role to be played a lot easier, and made them be able to portray the story line. Another costume that is noticeable is the costume of Emeli, of which is a Black blouse and skirt. This costume is something that fits with the narrative of the video as the idea of this clothing is showing the character in a professional way.

Another thing that can be seen in this music video is the idea of the use of the colour black. The colour black is the effect that is used throughout the video. In the video the courtroom is a lot lighter than the artist, allowing it to show the artist to become more exposed and show the vulnerability of the artist when she is getting interrogated by the policeman. Using the colouring of black means that it made the video throughout naturally darker. Having this being used allows the audience to be able to see the narrative of the video, rather than focusing on the way that the characters look throughout the video.

Research: Conventions of a Magazine Advert

The things that typically get included on a magazine advert is:

  • The release date or if the album is already available
  • The album name
  • The album cover
  • Main Image
    • An image of the artist is the main image as it is a way of advertising the artist
  • Artist Name
  • Details about the album
  • Positive ratings of the album
    • To make the album look good to the audience, making more people want to purchase it
  • A website where you are able to find more of the artist products
    • A way of getting more advertisement for other products

Research: Magazine Advert

What I learnt:

  • When taking the images, getting the artist to look directly at the camera, adds the use of direct address. By using direct address it looks as if the artist is watching everything you do and forces you into looking further into what is being advertised
  • Another thing I learnt is that the images are typically the biggest things on the advert. the reason that the picture is going to bigger is because the advert is another way of getting the artist out for the public to see
  • When creating a magazine advert, the least amount of words as possible works best as it means that it wont loose the interest of the public when reading it and will allow them to take in the necessary information
  • Another thing I learnt is that the use of a colour scheme works well. The reason a colour scheme works is because the colours chosen are the ones that usually represent the artists personality, which makes it easier for the audience to get a feel on what type of music they create, and the type of characteristics they may have.

Construction: Taking Images

Today, I went out to take photos for the digipak and magazine. The reason that I decided to do this today was because I was already looki...
